Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about managed IT, pricing, response times, and how we work.

What is a Managed Service Provider (MSP)?
An MSP is an outsourced IT department. We proactively manage your systems for a predictable monthly fee — handling helpdesk, security, monitoring, patching, backups, and strategic planning, so you don't need to staff in-house IT.
How is VMITS different from other MSPs?
We're built specifically for small and mid-sized businesses in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana — primarily manufacturers and distributors. You get a dedicated team that knows your business, not a faceless ticket queue. Our SLAs are short, our pricing is transparent, and we treat IT as a strategic investment, not a cost center.
What does pricing look like?
Most clients pay a flat per-user or per-device monthly fee that includes all helpdesk, monitoring, patching, basic cybersecurity, and account management. Hardware, projects, and licensing are billed separately. We're happy to quote based on your specific environment.
How quickly do you respond to issues?
Standard SLA is 15 minutes first-response during business hours, with most tickets resolved in under 30 minutes. Critical/business-down issues get immediate phone-based response.
Do you support remote and hybrid workforces?
Yes — that's our specialty. We deploy and manage secure remote-access tools, MFA, endpoint protection, and cloud collaboration platforms (M365, Google Workspace) for distributed teams.
Can you work with our existing software and systems?
Almost always. We support Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, plus the typical SMB stack (M365, Google Workspace, QuickBooks, line-of-business apps, manufacturing/ERP systems like Macola, SAP Business One, NetSuite).
What about compliance — HIPAA, PCI, CMMC?
We help you understand your obligations and implement the technical controls needed to meet them. Our security stack is aligned with NIST CSF, and we can produce evidence packages for auditors and cyber-insurance carriers.
What's the onboarding process?
Typical onboarding takes 2–4 weeks: discovery and inventory week 1, security baseline week 2, monitoring/RMM rollout week 3, training and handoff week 4. We do this without disrupting your team.
